Surfin’ the Casbah! is a series of interviews with Jesse Aizenstat, a 24 year-old San Diego University graduate in international politics. A California surfer, free-lance journalist and student of Middle East history, politics and culture, Jesse designed his own dream, an unusual journey through the Casbah region of the Middle East, in which he merged his two loves: surfing and reporting. Traveling with his laptop and his surfboard (specially designed with an original painting of Che Guevara), Jesse reported on his experiences in various countries in the region, including Israel, Palestine, Lebanon and Syria, with weekly updates by Skype when available.
Taira St. John, Ph.D., MF.T., host of two weekly talk-interview-call in radio shows on KPFZ 88.1 FM – Lakeport. California: Inside Out and It’s Your Business. Surfin' the Casbah, invited Jesse to record the Casbah series and produced it as a back-up for her other shows and for needed KPFZ program fill-ins during the summer of 2009. Jesse's intriguing blog, BloggingtheCasbah.com is an education in the Middle East, providing fresh new perspectives on the region.
